KAMPALA, UGANDA – Over the last two years, oil prospectors Tullow Oil and Heritage Oil and Gas have made major discoveries that are fast turning Uganda into a future oil producer.

Another player, Neptune Petroleum (Uganda) Limited is set to join them when it commences drilling activities in March, 2009.Neptune’s drilling plans have been buoyed by news that Tullow and Heritage have made two major discoveries in Block 1 at Buffalo-1 and Giraffe-1 wells – some 80 kilometres from the Iti-1 location where they are set to drill in March.  Giraffe-1 whose results were announced last week is the largest discovery in the Lake Albert Rift basin todate.

Two weeks ago, Tullow described the Bufallo-1 well as potentially the largest find, which means Giraffe-1 well has topped that. Because the two wells are in communication, Mr. Aidan Heavy, the chief executive of Tullow said:

“Buffalo-Giraffe is one of the largest recent onshore oil discoveries in Africa.”

Giraffe-1, which is located in the Butiaba region (Block 1), encountered over 38 metres of net oil pay within an 89 metre gross oil bearing interval.

The Bufallo-1 discovery encountered 28 metres of net oil pay. Neptune, wholly owned by Tower Resources Plc, holds the licence in Block 5, which covers the West Nile region (north western Uganda).
