By Bethsheba Achitsa  |  UNAA Times Online  |  Focus on Africa |  Business travelers and tourists are set to benefit from Delta Airlines’ direct flights between Kenya and the United States of America from June 5, 2009. With visa fees for tourists visiting the country cut by 50% for adults and abolished for children under the age of 16 in April, Kenya is having a welcome boost on traveler’s bookings.

delta1Delta, the world’s largest airline, has announced direct flights from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport via Dakar, Senegal. The airline, which is the only major US carrier that flies to Africa, becomes the first to fly directly to the US from East Africa.

Delta’s direct service between Atlanta and Nairobi will operate using a Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with up to 216 seats in a two class configuration featuring 35 seats in business elite and 181 in economy class. This service will enable the traveller to save on money as well as time. Travelers depart Nairobi at 2010hrs and arrive in Atlanta at 0800hrs-in time for breakfast!

While Swiss international Airlines that flies to Chicago and Atlanta, USA, via Zurich charge US$2,183 for the air ticket and Emirates Airlines charges US$2,561 to Houston, USA through Dubai, Delta is offering its customers limited time special introductory return economy fares from US$1650, inclusive of taxes and surcharges.

The new four times weekly flights will also offer passengers convenient connections via Delta’s Atlanta hub to 230 business and leisure destinations throughout the USA. The flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Delta, that operates its largest hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, will be the only carrier connecting North, East, South and West African countries

great development but I hope they offer good in-house services and good food and drinks. I usually don’t fly US airlines abroad…once did with Continental to Brazil and we had to pay for wines and spirits, contrary to other international carriers.
