I lived with Maama Irene Mukasa from October 2004 up to the time of her death. Maama Mukasa had been sick for a long time, however, she happened to fall sick shortly after the burial of Dr Buyinza. She was referred to Namulundu Health Centre at kajjansi Trading Centre. She then early October was diagnosed by Kampala Hospital and it was decided that she be operated on at the back. A day before she went for the Operation, on Wednesday 7th October, 2009; Mrs Mukasa told me she was to have an operation. Given her age, I must say it was not good news. In the early Morning of 9th October, the operation took off at Kampala Hospital. Little did we know that Maama Mukasa was not to come back alive to Bweya!
On Tuesday, 13th October, I went with Mr. Mukasa to Kampala Hospital, and Maama was happy to see both of us. Little did I know that it was my last time to talk to Maama Mukasa. She was briefly discharged and a friend former workmate in Mukono took charge of caring for her. Unfortunately, Maama Mukasa’s wound worsened and it was resolved to get her back to Kampala Hospital. Maama deteriorated on; and exactly 45 days after her operation, she departed this world. We who had seen Maama go through all the pains are grateful to all who tried their level best to see her live. Unfortunately, the good Lord decided to call her to himself. Praise Him. It was sad to learn of Mrs Mukasa’s death around mid day on Monday 23rd November 2009. Thank God for relieving maama of the earthly pains which she suffered for long. God Lord rest Maama Mukasa in eternal peace. Willy Kituuka
