By Hector Kanyike | The UNAA president Moses,R.Wilson addressed a press conference at the media centre in kampala and discussed among other issues the promotion of UNAA activities and the upcoming 2010 UNAA convention in Washington DC.
Present at the Press Conference were Hotel Africana Managing Director Mr. BMK Kibirige, UNAA envoy in Uganda Kizza Seninde, Mr. John Musajjakawa from the Uganda Investment Authority and Mrs. Christine Kawooya a representative from DFCU Bank which also donated 5million shillings to the up coming HOME IS BEST CONFERENCE to be held in kampala in 3 phases, First Dec.23 in Lira, second Dec.29-30 at hotel africana in kampala and lastly Jan 4 in Mbale.
Among the areas the conferences would concentrate will include family,business,politics,development,social life and how to link the UNAA diaspora with the private sector through the UIA and over 300-500 expected delegates.
The summit will also discuss challenges and also offer solutions and incentives on finance for Ugandans interested in construction homes and investment in real estate. As the most highly organised diaspora community that has been in existance for over 20 years UNAA is there to unite ugandans in North America by promoting social,cultural,government interaction and currently boasts of a membership of over 100,000 immigrants.
On his part Mr. Wislon encouraged Ugandans interested in participating in next years UNAA Convention at the Gaylord resort hotel in the US Capital to register early as plans were already in high gear for the labor day weekend that has now become the most powerful event drawing both local and international attention to UNAA.
Mr. Wilson noted that UNAA is a non-partisan nor political organisation whose main duty is to serve all Ugandans in the diaspora irrespective of political belief, tribe or religious doctrine hence the need to share common goals.
On the point of Dual-citizenship, Mr. Wilson noted that the current bill in parliament favors Ugandans who have lived abroad for 20 years only,but Wilson calls for a change in this bill saying if at all one is a Ugandan born in Uganda, he should benefit and access this dual-citizenship without basing on the years lived abroad.
He also encouraged the general public to visit UNAA’s new website at www.unaa.org in order to register for the 2010 DC convention and to learn more about the the objectives of UNAA. The early bird registration special is now set at $160 dollars and the Hotel room rate at $139 dollars for those making reservations before December 31 2009. Long live Uganda,Long live UNAA.
