By Ronnie Mayanja | www.unaatimes.com | During my visit to Uganda I embarked on a trip with a film crew and had the privilege of visiting Lira Integrated Academy. The school founded by a very hard working and visionary Beatrice Ayuru Byaruhanga is located in Northern Uganda. The founder is also one of the ten finalists in contention for the Women in Business Award ceremony slated for the 26th-30th April 2010 UNCTAD.
I was so happy to see someone who no prior savings but sheer determination defied all odds and established an integrated school that would embrace both the boy and girl education. Beatrice had grown up in a society that paid very little attention to the education of the girl child. Herself having fallen victim of this neglect, she was determined to establish a school in her village that presented an opportunity to all girls to pursue a good education.
Today Lira Integrated School boasts of a 1500 student body, an income generating brass band, a Swimming pool, Fish farming pond and University in the making. Below are some of the images from my journey to Northern Uganda that has witnessed several years of suffering at the hands of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels!

This development is good work done. Hope the people of Lira can afford. It is indeed an impressive development.
