Letter from the Editor | Ronnie Mayanja | September 2010

Dear Readers, Greetings, and welcome to September and of course the labor day weekend. This period for some of us marks the busiest weekend for Ugandans here in the diaspora. Several conventions will be taking place during the first weekend in September but most prominent will be the annual UNAA Convention in existence for the past 22 years.

Overall the convention is on record as far as beating all the previous UNAA conventions in terms of hotel room reservations and huge registration numbers.

Of course on the menu this year are artists like Radio & Weasel, Iryn Namubiru, Ronald Mayinja and Palazzo, P Ssozi and the Batabazi crew not to mention a host of DJs from across the US who are more than ready to spin those turn-tables.

The Boat Cruise on the potomac, the Miss UNAA Pageant and Solome’s Fashions should also be a major highlight that will draw a good amount of interest among this year’s revellers.

In an effort to make UNAA more relevant to its members a 13 member Constitutional Review Commission [CRC] was created to review the UNAA by laws and this year in Washington they will be presenting some of
their recommendations in a UNAA town hall meeting held on Saturday September 4th.

On the other hand this year we shall produce another limited edition of the Galiwango comic book. Working together with the Friend a Gorilla Campaign team we shall be encouraging the Ugandan diaspora to
friend as many gorillas as possible. [www.galiwango.com] and [www.Friendagorilla.org]

We at UNAA Times have also been going through some changes of our own. This fall we shall specialise and expand our operations in Uganda by launching Uganda Cartoon Network and UG Media Inc.[www.ugmediainc.com] to learn more visit both links.

As always we appreciate all your support and look forward to reconnecting with all those long lost friends at the magnificent Gaylord National Convention Center. It has been a long time coming but the 22nd UNAA Convention is finally upon us!

Come ready to enjoy the end of your summer in style!!

For God and my country,
