Besigye was flown out to Kenya for treatment onboard a Kenyan Airways aircraft. FDC women’s league leader Ingrid Turinawe told NTV that Besigye was allowed to fly after both the intervention of the American and British embassies in Uganda.

Besigye’s health deteriorated after being sprayed with pepper spray and tear while taking refuge in his vehicle. He was tear gassed and dragged into a police van instead of taking him to a hospital for treatment.
