Christians at St Peter’s Church of Uganda in Boston were honored to host The Rt. Rev. Thomas Shaw, the Diocesan Bishop of The Protestant Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. The Bishop who has dedicated a larger part of his life as a monk has been known to devote his life to religious service and contemplation in The Society of Saint John the Evangelist a monastic community of The Episcopal Church. Bishop Thomas Show has served in this capacity for the past 18 years after being consecrated in 1994.

He was at St. Peter’s Anglican Church of Uganda for a pastoral visit. Other guests included the the associate chaplain of St Francis Chapel, Makerere University Dr. Rev. Florence Muranga. The visitors were treated to a luncheon after the service.

Bishop Shaw was consecrated a bishop in 1994 and became the 15th bishop of Massachusetts in 1995. A life-professed member of the Society of St. John the Evangelist, a religious order of priests and lay brothers in the Episcopal Church, he is in demand nationwide as a preacher and retreat leader. His writings include the recent book, Conversations with Scripture and With Each Other.

Bishop Shaw is an active witness and voice for peace with justice in Palestine and Israel. He travels frequently and leads groups to the Holy Land, Africa and Central America. He is focused on developing and strengthening mission relationships within the Anglican Communion and partnerships to further the church’s work of reconciliation and service to the world, with a particular focus on eradication of poverty and disease.
