The Uganda Martyrs Day is a June 3rd public holiday in Uganda; but in the United States, it’s an annual celebration that was begun by Prof. and Mrs. Lugira in 1978. Since then, it has been a fixture on the Massachusetts Catholic calendar – starting at the St. John St. Hugh Parish Church in Roxbury, MA; being recognized by Boston Archbishops and Christian faith cognoscenti and finally culminating into the elaborately and very, VERY well planned and attended event that the 2009 celebrations starting at St. Mary’s Parish in Waltham were.

We spoke on the phone with Omega soon after her return from an exciting trip to Zanzibar and Uganda. Omega was able to kill 2 birds with one stone by performing live at the Sauti za Busara festival and then traveling to Uganda to deliver the Surgical Beds that she purchased with the money that was raised when she performed live at the Mulago Benefit concert last year. Academy Award-winner Halle Berry and acclaimed screenwriter/actor Tyler Perry, both recipients of an NAACP Image Award, will host the 40TH NAACP IMAGE AWARDS, broadcast live from Los Angeles’ historic Shrine Auditorium. This star-studded event, which coincides with the NAACP’s 100th anniversary, will kick off the organization’s year-long centennial celebration.
