The term Busoga originates from the Swahili language. “Usoga” (the KiSwahili form of the name “Busoga”) means an “island”. The present day Busoga Kingdom was, and still is, an island surrounded by water. In the north we have the swampy Lake Kyoga, in the west by the Victoria Nile (the river), in the south by Lake Victoria, and in the east by the Mpologoma (Lion) River.
Busoga as a region is a product of an alliance between the five sons of Prince Mukama Namutukula from the royal family “Babiito” of Bunyoro and his wife Naudo. Prince Mukama briefly settled in the area called Busoga around the 16th century.
You and I, Basoga and friends of Basoga, must work on improving the conditions of the people. Individually, we have done something, collectively we can do more.
Twegaite and others must strive to improve the conditions in Busoga.
This convention that has brought together philanthropies, NGOs, and many other folks who are responding to these critical needs and will also be inundated with cultural and religious celebration.
Boston welcomes you to this life changing Twegaite Boston convention may 26th to May 29th 2011.
