UNAA D.C 2010 Convention: Solome Katongole Fashions featured at the UNAA convention

This year’s UNAA DC Convention attracted some leading Ugandan fashion designers in the diaspora. Among those show casing their talents in this category was none other than Miss Solome Katongole; a Maryland native whose fashion designs took center stage during the New York Africa fashion week. Inspired by color, nature and our traditional colors, Solome managed to present a unique blend of a chic traditional urban look that left a statement at this year’s convention…UNAA Times captured some of these designs and now brings you the highlights…

Solome Katongole’s Bio | Fashion Influence and Background

I was born in Uganda and raised in Columbia, MD. I have always been aware of fashion from a young age and as I grew older my passion for fashion design grew as well. I have a bachelors of science in Biology. I first showcased my designs as an undergraduate at the University of Massachusetts Boston.

I honed my skills by designing for and participating in local fashion shows. In 2008 I moved to LA to pursue my dream of becoming a professional designer. I attended majoring in Fashion Design and now a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.

I am inspired by color and nature. I design clothes that make a woman feel great, sophisticated, and sexy. I create garments that are comfortable and make a statement. I love dance, traveling to warm areas wearing bright bright and soft colors, so I translate color and dance and a sense of feel into my fashion giving my customers the freedom to define their own style. My future plans are to have my own line and boutique.
